Dash cam saves the day providing evidence of blame in caravan crash

Another instance where a dash cam saves the day providing evidence of blame. Here a caravan driver tries to push in the front of a long queue of traffic and causes a collision. Footage owner is Mark Hazell.

Just as a side note I love this 2 camera set up, it is especially good for taxi drivers. Its a normal 2 camera dash cam kit such as the road angel halo but the camera that you would normally face out of the rear of the car you hang on the front windscreen pointing inwards.

This is a real "where the hell did he come from" moment. He must have actually gone right over the traffic island, what on earth was he thinking!?

4X4 Pulls across dash cam car - 24/3/15

Wow this last minute pull out from a junction was really something. I think that the driver of the dash cam car was incredibly lucky as he got way with bad bruising.

The notes with the video state that the sound you hear at the end is the airbag smacking the driver in the chest and winding him and that the date should be ignored on the video as they just hadn't set that yet

The Honda driver in front at the lights rolls back a long way in to the car with the dash cam.

This driver in the car with the dash cam was extremely grateful that he had the evidence he needed to prove that he was not at fault and therefore protected from being blamed for this accident.

What Crazy Dash Cam Videos Teach Us About Self-Driving Cars

We came across a great article that we want to share with you, we have done a short summary here:

The first self-driving cars are expected to hit showrooms within just five short years. Their
capabilities will be largely limited to highways, where there aren’t things like pedestrians and cyclists to deal with. You won’t fully cede control, as long as the road is clear, the car’s in control. But when all that computing power senses trouble, like construction or rough weather, it will have you take the wheel. The issue however is, that switch will not—because it cannot—happen immediately.

Audi’s testing has shown it takes an average of 3 to 7 seconds—and as long as 10—for a driver to snap to attention and take control, even when prompted by flashing lights and verbal warnings. This means engineers must ensure an autonomous Audi can handle any situation for at least that long. This is not insignificant, because a lot can happen in 10 seconds, especially when a vehicle is moving more than 100 feet per second.Which brings us to dash cam videos that  illustrate the myriad things that can, and do, happen on public roads. Here is just one random example:

so from realising what was happening to the accident was under 10 seconds, im fairly sure that a self-driving car would have been embedded in a cow! lets face it who is going to prepare a car with a simulation of what should happen if a lorry of cows unceremoniously "unloads" in front of you?

Dash Cam = Evidence Collector for Accidents

We came across this "car crash" compilation today, some of the incidents are unbelievable (and there
are a lot) mostly filmed via dash cam (I think there are 1 or 2 bike helmet cams in there too).  However my overwhelming response after the initial "Cor Blimey" to each incident was "thank god they had video evidence that proved where the blame lie".

This week we came across this clip.  The dash cam footage is taken from some kind of truck, we were unable to ascertain the tonnage but it certainly is slow to stop even though the commentary with the video states that the driver was ont he breaks early. (Footage on roads in Victoria, Australia)

This is a video from an Australian news channel, however what the guy says is just as relevant here in the uk "it is a national problem" that we have so many lunatics on the road.   Its great that drivers are now fighting back in the right way, by posting footage of other drivers performing dangerous maneuvers on the internet so that they can get prosecuted

Car Vs Truck Crash Caught on Dash Cam - Everyone OK

Julia creek Queensland, Wednesday the 3rd of December. A driver runs a stop sign in front of a truck
and gets T boned.Driver got away with cuts and a concussion and fined for not stopping at a stop sign.

I bet the driver was relieved to have this footage putting him in the clear of any wrong doing.

Use Your Mirrors - Dashcam Recording

Thank goodness that the driver of this car had a dash cam.  We hope that the driver reversing in this case admitted fault, without the guy with the dash cam having to point out that the event and "whose fault it was" was recorded.  However some unscrupulous people would try to shift the blame in this situation that could leave you at risk if you don't have a dash cam

Car vs Truck Crash E40 Aalter (Belgium)

This video was captured 13-8-2014, E40 Gent (Ghent) - Brugge (Bruges), exit Aalter. The Driver was sent to hospital in critical condition (2 broken cervical vertabraes (neck). She was in a coma for a while but got out of it and is recovering exceptionally well. Which after seeing the video I think you will that she is a very lucky lady indeed.

I bet that this truck driver was glad that he had a dash cam to prove that he was not at all at fault in this incident

Dash Cam Prevented Insurance Fraud

So we came across this fantastic example  today of an instance that clearly demonstrates why you need a dash cam.

You can clearly see that the driver of the car with the dash cam stops with plenty of distance in front of him while he waits for the car in front to make a turn.  He is then shunted on by the car behind him in to the turning vehicle.

The dash cam then clearly records the discussion and although we cant hear the sound in this instance it is more than obvious that driver 1 and 3's versions of events differ, but the driver in the middle is able to say ive got a dash cam recording everything

 

Whiplash Scam Smash Caught on Camera

A Truck in-cab camera has captured the moment that a Ford Galaxy swerved extremely violently across a motorway and smashed into a lorry. Amazingly, the occupants of the Galaxy blamed the lorry driver for the crash, even though they had driven right into his path across three lanes of the M25, they made four whiplash claims, leaving the haulier with a potential claim of up to £75,000.

However, thanks to the clear video footage, seen below, the potential insurance nightmare was avoided with the dispute dismissed within days as the Ford Galaxy can be seen clearly driving at speed past the lorry which is travelling in the slow lane of the motorway at 55mph – well within the 70mph speed limit. The driver reacts very slowly when other vehicles brake ahead of it, swerving violently across all three lanes and into an unavoidable collision.

Around 550,000 whiplash claims are made every year in the UK, but insurance experts estimate that up to 60% of these claims are bogus. These figures make the ‘cash for crash’ scam a £1billion-a-year fraud, with the UK now the ‘whiplash capital of the world’. What this means for the average car driver is that there is an additional £90 added to their insurance policy. Interestingly according to the AA, there have been 60% more personal injury claims since 2006, despite the fact that there has been a 20% drop in accidents over the same period.

The problem is that drivers can often feel like they are on shaky ground when they go into the back of another vehicle, particularly if there are no reliable witnesses to explain what happened. The blame is nearly always attached to the driver who hits the vehicle from the rear. Luckily for this driver the dash cam acted as the "reliable witness" and showed that the lorry driver was blameless
